History of O’malley’s Black Horse
The Legend of O’Malley’s Black Horse
They say Seamus O’Malley strode into Skipton on his sturdy black steed during a storm lit night. Their shadow cutting bold shapes on the landscape.
Fresh from the wild coasts of Ireland the pair wandered the dales seeking a place where music, good food and company welcomed them in like old friends.
When the horse struck its hoof upon the ground it unearthed a fresh spring which bubbled up through the imprint . A sign O’Malley believed. “ The Faerie folk have followed us over sea and moor to show us the way”. He bellowed. “ I vow to create a haven for all travellers seeking hospitality”.
And so the pub was born, with a warm hearth, filled with laughter and seasoned with a sprinkle of otherworldly luck.
Some locals swear that after closing, one can hear the clip of hooves in the cobbled yard. The Black horse keeping watch over all those who gather within.
Today in O’Malley’s at the Black horse we raise our glasses to honour the legends who started it all.
“Failte” the great Irish welcome awaits every guest who steps through our door.
